The Board


Paul Levi - President
Dr Levi is an Optometrist in private practise. He has a wife Gaby and three children; Leon, Oritt and Zeev. He has been very involved in Optometric affairs - having been the president of the WA division of the Optometric Association for 5 years, a National Vice President for WA for several years and a Registration Board member for 20 years. He currently holds a position on the executive of one Optometric special-interest group. Dr Levi had served on the board for 5 years in various positions before being elected Vice President and now President.

Professor Marcel Goodman - Immediate Past President
Serving as one of the key founding members and inaugural President of The Dianella Shul Dr Goodman paved the way for an increase in membership and a surge in activities of the Kehilla. This led to the construction of the current premises in Woodrow Avenue a project that was overseen by Dr Goodman.

The constant commitment displayed by Dr Goodmans dedication to the Kehilla sees him currently as Past President to the board whilst maintaining an active involvement in The Perth Yeshiva.

Dr Goodman is an eminent vascular surgeon involved with all of  the major hospitals in Perth as well as the Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv. Between saving lives and his work at the shule Dr Goodman is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia, a surgical teacher at St John of God hospital and a lecturer at the Notre Dame Medical School.

Dr Jeremy Raiter - Vice President
Jeremy Raiter is an ophthalmologist with a practice in West Perth.  He is married with three sons and is heavily involved in the local Jewish Community. Having been born in Perth, he has an extensive network and is able to help with contacts in most fields. He has served as Treasurer on the Board of the West Australian Jewish Doctors Society. His commitment to the Dianella Shule started in 1997 and he was elected as a Board Member in 2002 and Vice President in 2007. He also sit on the Board of the Perth Yeshiva. He has been instrumental in initiating childrens services for Shabbat mornings and arranging child minding on chagim, ensuring a quiet environment for prayer.

He is also the coordinator of medical care at the Shule. He has an extensive video library of visiting speakers and events in the Community.  He is the recent founding president of the Maccabi Martial Arts Academy indicating his commitment to the development and security of the young people of our community.

Mr Steven Kavalsky - Treasurer
As the Treasurer Steve Kavalsky oversees the functioning of the office, office staff and all related activities. He is also responsible for all the insurance, accounting, banking and finance activities of BMWA.   Steve is currently the Senior Development Manager with a national property group overseeing the role out of a master planned development in Perth CBD an surrounds.

Mr Daryl Zulberg - Security
Daryl Zulberg is the in-house legal counsel for the Australian office of a global mining company and materials handling company. He has been board member of Beit Midrash of Western Australia and a joint administrator of the Perth Yeshivah since 2005.

Mr Monty Posner - General


David Cherny - Security and IT
David Cherny joined the board in 2008 and focuses on security and information systems management. Previously he was involved in security for the Kingsford Maroubra Hebrew Congregation in Sydney for over 5 years as well as serving on their board for a year before moving to Perth. David has an extensive background in business management and operations for various distribution and service related businesses Australia wide. Currently specialising in information technology and business process management he is keen to see the organisation reach its full potential.

Sharon Parry - Functions and Events
Sharon parry is a Physiotherapist currently involved in research, teaching and community physiotherapy. As the functions coordinator for BMWA her responsibilities include catering for weekly kiddushim, various simchot and special events such as The Shavuos Dinner and Simchat Torah lunch.

Mr Yaacov Braude - Building Maintainance
Yaacov Braudes main focus is the management of the main premises at 68 Woodrow Avenue, The Rabbis residence and The Eruv. All aspects of these facilities such as repairs, maintenance, cleaning and contract management are undertaken by Yaakov as well management of the purchasing activities. In conjunction with his wife Glenda they administer the Kiddush roster. Outside of BMWA Yaakov runs Jacobs Handyman Services where he specialises in Home Maintenance.


Mr Rikki Arenson - Entertainment
Rikki is a committed member of the board focusing on fundraising and general activities. In his spare time he practices as a geriatric physician.
